Dr. Amit Barnwal has been appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Material Science and Metallurgical Engineering (MSME), IIT Hyderabad. Prior to joining IITH, Dr Amit was working as a post-doctoral researcher at Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg, Sweden. Before his post-doctoral appointment, he served as a project and research scientist at the Centre for Materials for Electronics and Technology (C-MET), Hyderabad. He has developed and upscaled (TRL-6) a patented hybrid hydrometallurgical–pyrometallurgical process for Li-ion battery recycling, which has been successfully transferred to multiple industries in India. Amit did his M Tech from Jadavpur University and obtained his PhD from IIT Roorkee. His research interests are in the fields of non-ferrous extractive metallurgy, sustainable recycling, critical metals and rare earth elements recovery, hydrometallurgy and many other.
